Our Story
Eight years ago, we purchased on the Naramata Bench, an officially recognized wine-growing sub-appellation in British Columbia. The land was begging for vines, and as devoted Pinot Noir lovers, we were happy to oblige. What followed was not simply a dream, but years of hard work. Together with friends and family, we planted 5,200 vines by hand, built the trellis system, laid the irrigation, and spent years nurturing a young vineyard into maturity. We learned the vineyard the only way you truly can—from the ground up. Through mistakes and small victories, challenging seasons and rewarding harvests, we came to understand the nuances of the site and the potential hidden within the fruit. A deep knowledge earned among the rows, one season at a time.
As the vineyard matured, so did the expression of the fruit. In its third leaf, the young vines produced grapes with the bright natural acidity prized for traditional method sparkling wine, and the fruit was selected for Bella Wines' Black Pine Pinot Noir. By fifth leaf, the vineyard was growing in character and potential. The grapes had found a new level of balance and concentration and were now worthy of winemaker Ben Bryant’s award winning 1 Mill Road Black Pine Pinot Noir. Now, we are excited to offer a unique opportunity to a limited number of individuals or organizations to become part of that story.
